Mohammad Shahriar Azad Bhuiyan has over 17 years of professional experience in the Bangladesh capital market, specializing in internal control, regulatory compliance, risk governance, and corporate secretarial functions. He currently serves as Senior Assistant Vice President and Head of Internal Control & Compliance (ICC) of UniCap Securities Limited, and also holds the position of Company Secretary, where he plays a central role in ensuring strong governance, regulatory adherence, and institutional integrity.

He began his career in 2008 at Union Capital Limited (now UniCap Securities Limited) and has since worked across multiple functional areas of the capital market, gaining hands-on exposure to brokerage operations, regulatory reporting, and control systems. Over the years, he has developed deep expertise in BSEC regulations, securities laws, AML/CFT frameworks, margin rules, operational risk management, and internal audit practices.

In addition to his ICC and Company Secretary responsibilities, Mr. Bhuiyan also holds key statutory and regulatory roles within the organization, including Chief Risk Officer (CRO), Chief Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer (CAMLCO), and FATCA Reporting Officer. He oversees compliance monitoring, due diligence processes, regulatory inspections, risk assessment frameworks, and board-level governance documentation, ensuring alignment with both local regulations and evolving global best practices.

Mr. Bhuiyan completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Finance from East West University and later earned an M.A. in Economics from Jahangirnagar University, strengthening his understanding of both firm-level compliance issues and broader macroeconomic risks affecting capital markets. He is also a graduate of the Investment Foundations® Program of the CFA Institute (USA).

He has attended numerous training programs, workshops, and regulatory sessions related to capital market compliance, AML/CFT, corporate governance, and risk management. Alongside his professional responsibilities, he has contributed analytical articles to national newspapers on capital market governance and macro-level economic issues.

As a member of the Management Committee (MAN-COM), he plays a pivotal role in driving organizational growth, enhancing governance standards, and promoting operational excellence. Additionally, he contributes as a columnist for The Daily Star, analyzing contemporary macroeconomic issues and capital market trends. His professional affiliations include membership in the American Economic Association (AEA), USA; lifetime membership in the International Society for Development and Sustainability (ISDS), Japan; and serving as peer reviewer for reputed international journals, including Journal of the Knowledge Economy and European Journal of Scientific Research and Reviews (Springer & Wisdom Gale). His leadership has been instrumental in shaping the firm’s research-driven investment strategies, client advisory frameworks, and risk-informed decision-making processes.
